The dream took place in a dream variation of the lobby of the headquarters building where I used to work. Several of us stood there, walked around, went to meetings, etc. It did seem to be a kind of a final wrapping-up day, and it may have been dealing with the fact I know from the news, which is that my old place of business underwent a large reorganization after I retired. After talking with some friends about various matters, none of whom I can recall as being real people from my work life, I took either my desktop or laptop computer and began finishing my final tasks: I was to search all the directories on that computer for files that met a particular criterion. If the files I found did not match that criterion - did not contain particular strings of characters or bytes - they would be deleted. I ran the search, feeling fairly confident that the vast majority of files, if not all of them, would not match. Those of you who program or who have done data searches, do you see a problem with this? After a while, I certainly did. The search-and-destroy I was running on the computer soon deleted enough files that the computer itself was no longer able to give me a sensible display of how well the program was running, or how much further it had to go. I just saw a blank black screen with an unreadable command prompt. I assumed the program had done its work properly, and I closed the computer, apparently a laptop, put it on the desk, walked away, and woke up.
